Meet The Owners and Instructors

Thank you for inquiring about Surf's Up Driving School. The Central Coasts Premier Driving School, teaching only private lessons. As a State Licensed and Bonded Driving School (ES4449), we exceed all of the requirements set forth by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Students are taught by and only drive with the owner. Retired Traffic Officer, who has made a career of traffic safety. I can proudly say that we have a pass rate of over 90%, when our students take the DMV drive test the first time. We may not be the biggest driving school, as this is not our goal. Instead the goal is simple. To provide each student with compassion, patients, experience, and the knowledge that I have gained, in my combined 30 years as Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Officer, and teaching experience as Driver Education, Driver Training Instructor. I know you have a choice in schools, and I hope to earn your trust.

Our mission is to provide each student with Quality Driver Education and Driver Training, while demonstrating our number-one priority; "Driver Safety."  We promote industry leadership and guidance in the development of uniform laws pertaining to the licensing of novice and experience drivers.  Surf's Up Driving School is committed to building confidence Behind-The-Wheel, while teaching new drivers, sound knowledge, the fundamental skills of driving, and the technology behind-the-wheel.
 

Having a love for driving and respect for the road, my philosophy is simple. Provide each student with excellent service and total customer satisfaction. I offer not only honesty, knowledge, and expertise that you would expect from a State License Driving School, but even more important, a sincere care and interest for each student and their driving needs. I do this with dedication, compassion, and skills obtained from a career in law enforcement and love for the road.
 

Every student, during each Behind-The-Wheel Driver Training Lessons, will drive with Rob or Ben.  Both Certified State Licensed Professional Driving Instructors, who have made a career of helping their communities. We will assist each student in becoming a competent and safe driver through the use of stress free teaching and one on one training.  

We do not use students to pick-up students at anytime.  We feel this puts our students at risk and adds unnecessary stress to the learning environment. With this added one on one time, stress levels are reduced, allowing students to learn more, while helping to develop safe and responsible driving skills. 
 

Unfortunately, California has been hit with high insurance rates due to a number of reasons. This has impacted our Driving School, and others greatly. In the summer of 2024, our insurance rates tripled per vehicle. Yes, you read that right. Tripled, even with our perfect driving records. Please know we are doing everything we possibly can to stay competitive and fair with our pricing. We truly appreciate your business. Please also know what we will never raise your rate once you're locked in. If you started at one rate, you'll stay there until you are done. We hope that helps.
